1. Why should I visit Plitvice Lakes National Park?
Originally called “Plitvička Jezera”, that is a unique ensemble of 16 natural lakes, protected with UNESCO, because of its flora, fauna, unique waters and mesmerising views. Granting UNESCO award in 1979., it is more popular every year by visitors, and when you get there, you will understand why.
2. How to get to Plitvice Lakes National Park?
Plitvice lakes are located in the middle of Croatia, 130 km from the capital city, Zagreb, or 260 km from our hometown, Split. It is very easy to visit them by bus, car, or a private transfer from both mentioned towns.
3. How much time do I need to spend in Plitvice lakes?
It depends on your wishes, knowledge towards this National Park and how your schedule is organized.
To see all the highlights of Plitvice Lakes National Park, 1 day is enough. If you are on tight schedule, or you just want to mark down that place from your bucket list, no problem, you will easily manage it. 4. How much is the entrance fee?
Entrance fee varies on how many days you want to spend on Plitvice lakes, on the season and lastly, on your age. Two most expensive months are in high season, July and August, for 1 day is 250 HRK which is approximately 34 EUR. Off season prices (April, May, June, September and October), are lower, 150 HRK per adult, which is approximately 20 EUR. And in beautiful winter months (January, February, March, November and December), price is at its lowest, only 55 HRK, which is approximately 7 EUR. If you are a student, do not forget your student ID, because you have a huge discount! Also, discount applies for children from age of 7 till age of 18, while kids until age 7 are not paying the entrance fee. Also, when you pay the entry fee, it covers all the transportation inside the Plitvice Lakes National Park. There are small trains and ferries and buses that take you from one side of the park to the other. When you get tired of walking, there is an excellent choice of restaurants on various station points, where you can either snack a bit or treat yourself with a full, domestic meal. Also, you can enter the Plitvice lakes with your own food, take some sandwiches and organize a small picnic to relax while an amazing view of the Plitvice lakes is in front of you.
5.When is the best time to visit Plitvice lakes?
There are two entrances. Plitvice lakes entrance 1 is, of course, the main one, it can get a bit crowded during high touristic season. But, if you head towards Plitvice lakes entrance 2 (which is very close), there are less people in the line. It is the best to start with your park visit in the early morning – you will avoid the crowds, take better pictures, and enjoy your day to its fullest. Do not bother about closing times, because this natural phenomenon is open 365 days in a year and mostly open from 7 am until 8 pm.
